I haven’t posted here in a bit of a while, and I’ve just been looking over some of my older posts. I’ve had a bit of a brain wave about the definition of a currency; it’s not perfect, but here goes.

Goods can be valued as a fraction of the average pay received per unit time. Better yet define monetary value as the fraction of unit time an individual would need to work at the average pay rate in order to afford the item. Worth could be denoted as weights of gold, and then paid for in credits that were each worth a certain weight of gold; this would prevent the price of gold sky rocketing and becoming impractical for practical applications like it would if used as literal currency, however fluctuation sin the gold market could still see an individuals investment rise and fall overnight and could lead to a susceptibility to market manipulation.

Defining value is terms of another items value (gold, bread, average pay per unit time) requires that the value of this other thing be constantly adjusted. Alternatively it could be set at the beginning of the year, and be reviewed periodically.

Another brain wave. If your at the super market and buying something worth 0.5 grams of gold with 500milicreds, and the gold market suddenly crashes, the value of the item decrease, but so do your credits, by the same amount. Suddenly the actually worth of gold is unimportant!

Such a variation could only be noticed in variations between two items, for example bread and gold. The ratio of value between these two might fluctuate depending on the ease of mining gold vs. baking bread. Alas, as in physics only the ratio between to natural values can be intrinsically qualified.

Inevitably a gold backed standard in an open market would lead to someone selling gold at a value other than one credit per gram, such is the nature of competitive economics. The question is, whether these sales would be the anomolies and the price of gold would remain unchanged, or at least change very slowly, or whether there would be relatively swift trends up or down in value. For slow changes, the value of one cred could be adjusted on a periodic basis; however the literal interpretation of what this would mean or how one would go about implementing it eludes me.

I propose that the numerous physical ‘constants’ required for the development of life as we know it, may in fact be interelated. Some suggest that the precision by which the universe has been ‘tuned’ for human implies a creator. However, much as we come to understand the lack of independance between a circles circumference and it’s diameter, it may be that the physical constants are not themselves independant and therefore their coincidence not as miraculous.

Paper sizes are denoted in the from a,b . The ratio of the side length is 1:√a . The area is a^-b; unless a=1, which case the area is ~~b^2~~ 2^-b . The unit of area the square pazan, which is approximately 2.8936(73166)m^2. Given the area, the length of the shortest side can be calculated by √(A/√a).

The 3,b series is the most popular, in particular 3,4 which is approximately 0.2487 x 0.1436 metres. The closest to A4 is 2,6 .

A point of interest regarding the civilisation is the prevalence of strategy games. These games take many forms but can be divided into several broad categories. Some games involve the placement and movement of tokens, usually of a predefined grid, to achieve some predefined objective. Others involve the trading of tokens with other players or a central reservation. Often these tokens will be marked to distinguish them as particular types with particular abilities or rule sets. Some games may involve elements of chance as well as strategy.
